What's Cool in Our School: Grade 7 FACS Students Celebrate Fall With Delicious Creations

Earlier this month, Jordan Middle School grade seven Family and Consumer Sciences students brought the flavors of fall to life with a hands-on cooking project that filled the classroom and hallways with the smell of warm spices, baked treats, and cozy comfort foods. Students selected their own recipes, rolled up their sleeves, and created dishes that showcased both creativity and everyday cooking skills.

The menu was full of seasonal favorites, including pumpkin cupcakes, creamy pumpkin pasta, cinnamon donuts, and caramel apple cobbler. Many students also opted for classic comfort foods like banana bread, cheesecake, and even mac and cheese served in a bread bowl.

JMS staff members were invited to sample the finished fall food creations. Teachers and staff stopped by, asked questions, and celebrated the students’ hard work. The pride on students’ faces said it all, they were thrilled to share something they made from start to finish!

Beyond the delicious outcomes, students strengthened practical cooking skills they can use at home including reading and following recipes, measuring ingredients, safely using kitchen tools, and working independently in a busy kitchen environment. It was a fun and flavorful way to explore real-world applications of what they’re learning in FACS.

This fun cooking experience is always a hit with both students and staff, and we’re proud of the creativity and enthusiasm our seventh graders brought to the table!
